Day 3. Wednesday
This day was spend outside school: a trip was organized in the nearby region.
The first stop was in a natural reserve, in Hateg where students and teachers have learnt about the Buffalo (Bison bison) an animal that was about to disappear from our country, but now their number have increased. Students took photos and the best one was later used on the cover of our Eco Calendar.
The second stop was at Corvinesti Castle: it is one of the largest castles in Europe and figures in a top of seven wonders of Romania. As one of the most important properties of John Hunyadi, the castle was transformed during his reign. It became a sumptuous home, not only a strategically enforced point. With the passing of the years, the masters of the castle had modified its look, adding towers, halls and guest rooms. This was an extraordinary History lesson and a great opportunity for our guest to learn more about Romania and Romanians.
The last stop was at The Fortress of Deva, located at the top of a volcanic hill. The first evidence of the medieval Deva Fortress dates back to the second half of the 13th century, in 1269, when Stephen V, King of Hungary and Duke of Transylvania, mentioned "the royal castle of Deva" in a privilege-grant for the Count Chyl of Kelling. From 1273 dates the first record about a military operation that involved the fortress.
